Lucy Boot Toppers

Fold them up, fold them down. Slide these toppers inside the cuff of your boots and fold them over for an attractive knitted cuff. Or slide these toppers over your knees for extra warmth and to give your boots that legwarmer look.

These very simple boot toppers have a ton of stretch in them, which makes them perfect for wide calf boots and most knees. They take 100 grams of worsted weight yarn and showcase hand dyed yarns well. This is a great pattern for newer or beginning knitters.

Yarn:  Dyeabolical Superwash Worsted in "Lucy" (100 grams/180 yard)
Needles: 16" circular US7 (4.5 mm) or US7 double pointed needles
Gauge: 34sts/4" in relaxed, unstretched k2,p2 rib
Fit: Stretches to fit 12" - 24"; approximately 6" tall.
Sample shown on 20" wide-calf boots.

Notes: This pattern uses the entire hank of yarn. I recommend weighing your ball before casting on for the first topper and binding off when you have a little more than half the ball remaining. Variations: If you have more than 100 grams of yarn, keep knitting

Cast on 88 stitches using a stretchy cast on. I prefer using the German Twisted Cast On.
Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the cast on.
Pattern Row: *Knit 2, purl 2. Repeat from *
Repeat pattern row for 40 rows (about 6") or until desired length is reached.
Bind off loosely.
And that's it! I told you it was easy.

Variation Suggestions: Add or subtract multiples of 4 stitches to adjust the width. Add extra length for a slouchy cuff above the knee. Knit a 2x2 rib scarf to match!
