Elfe Sweater

My lovely friend, Sarah, knit this fantastic sample out of Dyeabolical yarn. It took less than 1 hank of each color and there was still 50 grams of yarn leftover! She easily could have knit the medium or maybe even the large size. The design is called Elfe by Astrid Schramm.  The yarn used is Bloohoohoo in Alter Ego and Bordello in Tenacious Sock.

Customer FOs: Fall 2013, Part II

Hi there! It's Kara again with the second installment of the Fall project highlights. This time we'll focus on the spinning related projects finished in the last few months.

If you've just joined us, FOs are Finished Objects: any item knitted, crocheted, woven, felted, spun or otherwise transformed from Dyeabolical yarns or spinning fibers into another form (e.g. yarn knitted in to mittens, warp crocheted in to dishcloths, fiber in to a felted object, dyed top spun in to yarn).

Wendy of Knit 1, Heart Too spun a sweater's worth of Portuguese Merino in Flowershop Inferno and then knit it into a lovely sweater. (stash page, project page) By the way, there is some Portuguese Merino in stock in the shop right now and available for special order, but move fast. It is no longer available from Rachel's distributor and when it is gone, it is gone.

Look how gorgeous this yarn is!

And then how great it looks in sweater form!

From Marja, we have a great skein in Gamma Ray.

From Kara, we have a couple projects. First up, she spun a 3-ply superwash merino in Flowershop Inferno into a 3-ply fingering weight. (blog post)

Then, from handspun featured here previously, she knit a great Hitchhiker scarf. (project page, blog post)

From Carrie, we have Themyscira in two fibers spun together - BFL/Firestar and Portuguese Merino.

Mandy spun some great Themyscira in Finn wool & also BFL wool, then knit them into a fabulous Boneyard Shawl. (project page)

And last, but not least, from Ann we have a fantastic Wingspan scarf in Mr. Fuschia.

Phew. That's spinning all caught up. Just remember that if you'd like to see your finished project featured here, the best way to do that is email me (Kara) at starmonkeybrass(at)gmail(dot)com or message me on Ravelry

Customer FOs: Fall 2013, Part I

From Kara --

Hello again! It's time to catch up on the finished objects/projects (FOs) for the remainder of 2013, but first a couple housekeeping notes.

Lately we are seeing so many great projects that it is tricky to keep up with every project every month. I (Kara) will keep looking on Ravelry for great FOs to post, but future FO posts will be more like occasional highlights instead of a comprehensive monthly round up -- at least until I am done with school! Life as a full-time employee and part-time doctoral student makes it hard to get everything done and still squeeze in knitting! As always, the best way to have your project featured is to post it to the Ravelry thread, use the contact form in the sidebar, or contact me through my email or blog (below) Thanks for reading

========================================
There are a lot of really excellent finished projects this fall, so I will spread updates out over a few weeks. I hope this inpspires you to cast on with your Dyeabolical yarn.

Jacynth knit this awesome pair of Io Gloves using Tenacious Sock in Moonlight Kisses and a non-Dyeabolical gray. (project page)  Fuzzah Kitteh!

Dominik used the Knit Crate Cafe colorway in Super Ego to knit up a lovely Bryndis shawl. If you scroll down on her project page, there are also some fun photos of the shawl in action. Plus the Super Ego base makes for a great shawl.

Allie knit up a gorgeous pair of Cachioera socks using the BFL Hard Twist sock yarn in Blue By You (project page). The BFL makes a great hard-wearing sock - you can order some in any of the dyed to order colors, too. [Check back in a few weeks for more great semi solid colors perfect for detailed socks - Rachel]

From me (Kara), we have a pair of Spatterdash Wristwarmers in the BFL HardTwist in Themyscira. These were a (well-received) gift for a friend. (project page)

We have these great socks from Ava knit out of the Serendipity colorway.

Finally, from Monica we have a few finished Dyeabolical FOs. First up, her first pair of socks in Off With Her Red. (project page)

And then two pair of Skully fingerless mitts (minus skulls) using Superwash Worsted in one-of-a-kind colors:

That's it for this time - we'll catch up on the rest of the FOs in my next couple posts. As always, shop for your Dyeabolical yarn here. And if you have an FO you'd like featured, send me a note - I'm karamichele on ravelry or you can email me at starmonkeybrass(at)gmail(dot)com.

Skew You, Winter!

Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, Monday morning
I'm not sure how much snow actually fell in St. Louis, but the snow on my patio is currently at 16". The working theory is that we are the proud owners of our own snow, plus the snow from the people across from us, plus the snow from all 4 buildings in the courtyard. We are never getting our car dug out.

This yarn has been a scarf and 3 different attempts at the Kings Cross socks. The first 2 times I thought I was smarter than the pattern and made the socks way too big. The third time I followed the pattern and the socks were too small. It's not the patterns fault. They are written for a size foot that I don't own and I was apparently in some sort of haze when I tried to resize it.

Kara suggested the Skew socks. Why have I resisted this pattern? I used a sport weight yarn and slightly larger needle than the pattern called for and this first sock fits great. Knits fast, too. I love that you knit this amorphous blob of fabric, then 2 rows later, BAM! Sock.
